Association of genetic variants in STAT5B gene with milk performance and mastitis related traits in dairy cattle

Udder performance and health are important traits in dairy cattle worldwide. The present study aimed to explore the association of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) STAT5B gene with milk mastitis related traits. included 201 cows three pure breeds (i.e. Holstein Friesian, Jersey Achai) two crossbred at four established farms Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. samples were analysed for somatic cell count (SCC) composition fat , protein lactose percentages). generalized linear model was deployed analysis using SAS. pool DNA sequencing showed (three synonymous a 3/ UTR) SNPs STAT5B. These further validated all SNaPshot assay. breed-wise that most consistent Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium (P>0.05). revealed significantly higher percentage TT genotype lower SCC CC genotypes SNP 1 (exon 2, C>T), whereas 2 16, T>C) SCS compared other (P<0.05). 4 (3/ UTR, C>T) frequency clinical heterozygous (CT) homozygous genotypes. silico predictions changes RNA secondary structure 3. suggests should be considered as candidate gene, variants identified useful genetic markers improved udder health.
